Following its PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita releases, the “Steins;Gate 0” is revealed to be released on Steam on May 8, 2018. This will mark the game’s the first time the PC will be released outside of Japan.
“Steins;Gate 0” was originally released in 2015 a visual novel video game developed by 5pb. and Nitroplus for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. Other than this, the game was released for Microsoft Windows in August 2016, and Xbox One in February 2017. The game gained a prequel manga in 2017 and has an anime adaptation planned for the year.
The game is a sequel to the 2009 game “Steins;Gate” and is told from the viewpoints of several characters. These characters are mainly university student Rintaro Okabe, the time traveler Suzuha Amane, and the neuroscientist Maho Hiyajo. Okabe, upon meeting Maho and her co-worker Alexis Leskinen, ends up becoming a tester for the artificial intelligence (AI) system Amadeus.
In the game, the player controls the direction of the plot as they read text and dialogue that comprise the story and whether to answer phone calls from the Amadeus. There are different endings to the game and they are branched from the two main branches in which the story splits early in the game.
Featured in the game is beautiful artwork and an engaging story involving a time travelling theme including an artificial intelligence as its central hook. The story is also known as an “Alternate Wordline” in which the player failed the original game. Outside of the story features, players can interact with the game using their smartphone and determine the outcome of the story through answering their phone or not.
As stated, “Steins;Gate 0” is a sequel to “Steins;Gate”, which was first released in 2009 as a the second game in the Science Adventure series, following “Chaos;Head.” It told of a group of students as they discover and develop technology that gives them the means to change the past. In terms of gameplay it has a non-linear plot line which contained different branches of scenarios that depended on certain interactions.
