The D.N.Angel Manga Makes a Return in Asuka Magazine

Yukiru Sugisaki’s 1997 manga “D.N Angel” is officially making its return as announced by the May issue of Kadokawa’s Monthly Asuka magazine. Further details on this report will be announced in the upcoming issues of the magazine.

As noted the “D.N. Angel” manga is a work from 1997 and created by Yukiru Sugisaki who also worked on the “Rizelmine.” Serialized by Kadokawa Shoten shoujo magazine Monthly Asuka the series had reached a total of 15 volumes by September 2010. However, following the August 2005 issue of the magazine, a hiatus was announced by Sugisaki and lasted until around 2008 when the series returned in the April 2008 issue of Monthly Asuka.

During the hiatus, a second manga series was released in August 2003. It was titled “D.N.Angel TV Animation Series” and was based on the anime adaptation. Also created by Sugisaki and serialized by Monthly Asuka in its October 2003 issue, the series had a total of 2 tankoubon volumes published by Kadokawa Shoten.

The anime adaptation of the series came out in April 2003 with TV Tokyo, Dentsu and Xebec as the producers. The series aired from April 3 to September 25, 2003 and had a total of 26 episodes with Koji Yoshikawa and Nobuyoshi Habara as the directors.

More than the anime adaptation, the series had also gained a PlayStation 2 video game titled “D.N.Angel: Kurenai no Tsubasa” a.k.a. “D.N.Angel: Crimson Wings” in September 2003. Published by Takara, the storyline for the game related much closer to the manga than the anime. Another adaptation for the series is a trilogy of novels that was released between September 2000 and September 2001.

The story of “D.N Angel” tells of a clumsy, block-headed, and wimpy middle school student name Daisuke Niwa. On his 14th birthday he plucks up the courage to confess to his longtime crush Risa Harada but is rejected. The same day however, Daisuke finds himself entering a strange heritage as he finds himself transforming into Dark Mousy, the infamous phantom thief, whenever his mind is set on Risa.

Now he must deal with not only plans by his mother for him to steal valuable works of art and let the name of the elusive art thief be known, but also deal with the struggles in his relationships with his friends and family. What’s more, he is not the only one with a second identity and they may just be his greatest adversary.
