Synopsis
This the quirky love story between a polar bear and a white seal
The Good
The fun thing about anime/manga is that can it take an idea that may sound ridiculous on paper and make it work. This series is a prime example of that idea. With how simple yet charming the art and design is for this work, you can’t help but appreciate when it takes on more emotional and in-depth scenes. This part right here was actually a surprise for the writer. For one thing, with the way the premise was set, it was half-expected that this series would be more on a light-hearted note filled with different kinds of antics revolving around the bear trying to gain the affections of the seal while the seal makes numerous kinds of mistakes.
It was a pleasant surprise to find that the series took on a more emotional route between the characters rather than a comedic one. This made for an interesting look into the development of the dynamic and how the series would work around their relationship development.
The Bad
With the simplicity of the art style, the emotional moments of when the characters share about themselves can be a bit hit or miss. Other than this the only real issue that can be found with the series so far is how one note the characters can be, especially the seal character. It’s understandable given the general idea of the characters and how they’re basically natural enemies but the way that the seal constantly freaks out with very little transition or change over his change in opinion over the Polar Bear makes his character seem a little one-note.
Conclusion
It’s an interesting story that holds a certain charm in how it handles its basic outline and develop the dynamic of the characters. As stated the art works for most of the series but there are moments when the art may be a bit of a miss. Then again, it might just be this writer’s perspective on it. Still, it was a pleasant surprise on the direction that the series decided to take and while short, does have potential of being better and does have its sweet moments.
