A Second Look: Osake wa Fūfu ni Natte kara

Synopsis

This is the tale of a female manager named Chisato who at work is as serious as can be and works her hardest. Behind this aloof figure however, there lies a cute character that comes out with a good drink created by her husband Sora.

First Read

The plot is simple, the romance was cute and there was a nice cover on how the drinks and how enjoyable they are. This is the basic gist on what positive points that the manga has given. Outside of this, the characters have a sweet portrayal over their relationship which is rather commendable given how short the chapters can be. The only real issues with the series is that it could have done a little more exploration on the characters and that certain aspects of the series can get rather repetitive. What’s more, in comparison to Chisato, Sora doesn’t seem all that much in terms of character dynamics. It’s a simple series that banks on the relationships of the characters and its comedy could use some work. Other than this, the series doesn’t really seem all that much and may not appeal to a whole lot of audiences.

Second Read

When it comes to taking a second look at a series, you can’t help but find certain aspects that you haven’t noticed before and new aspects about it to enjoy. Still one aspect about the series remains the same, and that is the strength in the series’ portrayal of Chisato and Sora’s relationship. With the first reading of this series by this writer, the relationship of the two seemed rather sweet but not much thought was put into it at the time. Reading it again you can’t help but see how well-done the dynamic was.

The more you read the more you realize how ideal of a couple that the two are and how well that their personalities play off one another. The idea of a wife being the breadwinner and the husband being the homemaker has been done before but with this series there is a more heartfelt note without the exaggeration of their personalities. Nothing against how other series do it but the romance between the two is just something that should be done more.

And it’s not just Chisato and Sora’s relationship that was done well but also the other characters’ relationships as well. There wasn’t much shown but it was nice that there was at least some exploration on the other characters. Still, it would have been nice to see some singular development on them.

Conclusion

The strongest point to be found with the series is in the way that it works the relationship between Chisato and Sora. There could have been a bit more development on points like the comedy and outside of the relationships and love for drinking of the characters but what has been presented so far holds a certain charm given the simplicity of the series’ theme. Basically, if you’re looking for a simple story that takes on the theme of enjoying alcoholic beverages and a married couple’s relationship around it, all the while keeping a heartwarming tone? This is it.
