Get ready to see the ASL trio with a new look as the “One Piece” brothers star in a picture book illustrated by rising artist Shinsaku Nagata. Released by Shueisha, the book is titled as “One Piece picture book Light and Darkness: The Story of Luffy, Ace and Sabo.”
The story told in the book is of the first meeting between the three characters as children. It was first released between June and August 2017 in the three-volume mook “ONE PIECE magazine” and was in commemoration of the series’ 20th anniversary.
For the series, the tale of the three boy’s first meeting took place in the twenty-third story arc of the series, and in the fifth and final part of the Summit War Saga. The arc also marked the end of the first half of the “One Piece” series before continuing on in the Marineford Arc. During this arc, the world faces the passing of both Whitebeard and Ace’s death Luffy’s have been sent into critical condition.
With the help of Boa Hancock, Luffy’s allies transport him to safety in Amazon Lily, where he undergoes healing and finds to strength and determination to see his crew once more.
In addition to the the publication of the chapters published in the mooks, it has been noted that there will be many newly-drawn pages done by the artist to be added in the book edition. What’s more, a comment was also released by the creator himself which was posted in the wrap-around jacket of the book. It stated, “This is a picture book that can be changed by your imagination!!"
For those who wish to purchase 64-page book, it is priced at 2,160 yen which is about 20.32 US dollars.
“One Piece” first released in 1997 as a manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. Currently running with around 88 volumes released, the series is one of the longest running works in the anime/manga community. Anime wise, the adaptation of the series came out in 1999 and currently has around 828 episodes.
Over time, the series has turned into a franchise with a variety of adaptations including OVAs, films, and games. As of October 2017, the manga has been marked as the best-selling series in history, having sold over 430 million copies worldwide.
