Synopsis
The story continues with the Saiki Kusuo, a powerful psychic with all kinds of abilities but only wishes to have a quiet and normal life. This wish is easier said than done however as the people who call themselves his friends are far from normal.
The Good
The comedy continues strong for the new season and added with the portrayal of the characters, it made for quite a few giggles. It may not seem that obvious but personally the artwork of the episode seems a bit more cleaned up than in the previous season. Basically the general introduction that the episode has given for the new season is pretty solid. The way that it managed to give time to all characters while maintaining Saiki’s perspective of things is pretty commendable. What’s more the whole crossover segment that had happened in the beginning of the episode made for a fun start to the episode.
The Bad
As great as the whole different segments were in reintroducing the characters were, a large portion of the episode seemed rather rushed. While the comedy work was pretty great, for the most part, the whole episode felt more like a bunch of skits rather than the segments that they were supposed to be. Another thing, while we did get to see all kinds of parts for the different characters, there were certain points of the episode where they seemed kind of onenote, or perhaps it’s just a personal perception of this writer.
Conclusion
The episode had good comedy and a solid introduction for the series, but for the most part, the episode seemed rather rushed in a lot of parts. And while it is great that we get a good reintroduction to all of the characters, there is some onenote moments for them, but since it is a comedy it is honestly not all that surprising. In all honestly, there isn’t much negativity to be said for the episode given that it is the first and as a comedy work, the bar isn’t completely set yet. Overall it was a good episode, not great, but good.
