"One Punch Man's" Artist Brings a Blast from the Past with a "Back to the Future" Manga

Take a trip to the past as artist Yusuke Murata brings back the sci-fi work “Back to the Future” with an online manga based on the film trilogy. In celebration of the news, Muraka posted an illustration of the work.

Announced via the online manga publishing service Konomanga ga Sugoi, the “「BTTF」” manga is already confirmed to be taking its story from the first film of the trilogy which was done by screenwriter Bob Gale and is listed for its first volume to release in Japan on April 20th by Amazon Japan.

Yusuke Murata is a Japanese manga artist who began his career with the 1995 oneshot “Partner.” He is best known for illustrating the 2002 American football manga Eyeshield 21, in collaboration with writer Riichiro Inagaki. Another work that he is best known for is for his illustration of One’s “One-Punch Man” which was serialized in the Weekly Young Jump online version.

“Back to the Future” is an American science-fiction adventure comedy film that was first released in 1985. Directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Zemeckis and Bob Gale, the film featured actors Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. When the film was released on July 3, 1985, it grossed over $381 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of 1985. Over time the film has gained various awards including the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, the Saturn Award for Best Science Fiction Film, and the Academy Award for Best Sound Effects Editing.

The film also gained a high amount of recognition with three Academy Award nominations, five BAFTA nominations, and four Golden Globe nominations, including Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy). It was 1989 that the film took a turn into a media franchise as it gained two sequels with Back to the Future Part II in 1989 and Back to the Future Part III in 1990, as well as an animated series, theme park ride, and several video games.

As for the story which the manga will be basing on, it tells of Marty McFly, a teenage boy who is friends with the eccentric scientist Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown. When helping Doc with a stolen time machine, trouble occurs, and Marty inadvertently activates the machine and travels back in time to 1955, his parents’ time. Now after causing damage to his parent’s history, it’s a literal race against time for Marty and Doc as they find a way to return him to his own time.
