It is official, actors Bill Nighy and Chris Geere are joining the cast of the upcoming live-action film, “Detective PIkachu”
Previously, it was revealed that Ken Watanabe, the man behind Lord Katsumoto Moritsugu in “The Last Samurai” will be joining the film as an original character named Detective Yoshida. For the newly revealed cast members however, there is no confirmation on their roles to be found on the official website.
With the other cast members for the film, there is Ryan Reynolds to play as Detective Pikachu himself. Justin Smith to play as the main character who is in search of his missing father. And Kathryn Newton as the “sassy journalist” Lucy.
In regard to the newly revealed cast members, Bill Nighy is an English actor and voice actor who made a name for himself as the womanizer Prof. Mark Carleton in the 1991 series, “The Men’s Room” His most prominent role however which spread his name is as Billy Mack in “Love Actually.” Over the course of his career, the actor made himself known in multiple films including “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.”
As for Chris Geere, he is an English actor who had his start as Matt Wilding on the BBC series “Waterloo Road.” He is best known however, for his role as the lead role of Jimmy Shive-Overly in the FXX comedy “You’re the Worst.”
No full details has been released on the story, but it has been confirmed the story will be featuring Smith’s character teaming up with Detective Pikachu to search for his missing father.
It was in mid-January that the film began production and it will be in May 2019 that it will be making its debut. Directing the production is Rob Letterman and writing the scripts are Alex Hirsch and Nicole Perlman. Upon the film’s release it will be distributed in Japan while distribution outside of Japan will be handled by Universal Pictures.
The film is based Nintendo 3Ds game “Detective Pikachu” which was developed by Creatures Inc., published by The Pokémon Company, and distributed by Nintendo.
