It is confirmed in the official website of the Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card anime series on Monday that the Japanese Blue-ray Disc and DVD releases have listed the anime to have 22 episodes. Last month, NHK reported that the anime will have 26 episodes.
The Japanese home video releases will have a total of eight volumes with one volume to ship every month starting from May until November.
Cardcaptor Sakura tells the story of an ordinary girl named Sakura Kinomoto who founds a book containing magical “Clow Cards”. When the cards all flew away and scattered all around her town, it is her duty to capture them before they wreak havoc into the world. She is guided by the guardian Keroberos upon capturing the Clow Cards. The first television anime had a total of 70 episodes and two movies that were all successful hits not only in Japan but also in other parts of the world.
Morio Asaka returns to direct the new anime at Madhouse. Asaka was also the director of the first Cardcaptor Sakura anime as well as its two films. The card designs and costumes are carefully designed by CLAMP’s Mokona while Kunihiko Hamada is in charge of the character designs. Takayuki Negisihi will be composing the music for the new anime, Masafumi Mima as its sound director, and its producers are NHK Enterprise, NHK, and Kondansha.
The anime series aired on January 7 and is available for streaming in Crunchyroll (same time as Japan) and Funimation (in English dub) via FunimationNow.
