This is the 38th anime film for the Doraemon franchise. To give lucky fans a chance to watch it in advance, a special lottery will be held. A total of 3,000 people will be able to attend the five advance screenings that will take place in Japanese theaters on February 24-25.
The previous film of the franchise, “Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Nankyoku Kachi Kochi Daibōken” a.k.a. “Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi” was released on March 4. During its run it earned more than 4.14 billion yen (about US$38.2 million) and became the highest-grossing anime in the current 12-installment Doraemon film series that began with the 2006 film “Doraemon: Nobita No Kyoryu.”
“Doraemon” is one of the longest running franchises in the anime/manga community. It began in 1969 with the manga series written and illustrated by Fujiko F. Fujio. Over time the series grew with a variety of manga, anime, and plenty of merchandise to go around.
