Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions Takes 6th in Japan Box Office in its Opening Weekend

The official box office report has been released for the first weekend of 2018 (January 6-7) and romantic comedy film “Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions the Movie: Take on Me” takes sixth place in rankings in its opening weekend. It has also been confirmed that the film 3rd in Pia’s first day satisfaction ranking with a very good 91.7 rating.

Though there is no concrete data on ticket sales yet, seeing as the film was only released in 72 theaters, this was quite a feat for it.

“Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions” first began s a series of light novels written by Torako and illustrated by Nozomi Ōsaka. Having received an honourable mention in the Kyoto Animation Award competition in 2010, the series soon gained a publication under the company in June 2011. There are three volumes for the series and in October 2012, the anime adaptation of the series was released in October 2012. The series ran for a total of 12 episodes before it ended in December 2012.

Aside from the anime series, six six-minute Lite episodes had been streamed on YouTube. The first film of the franchise was “Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusion: Heart Throb” and it was released alongside the second season of the anime in September 2013.

The story of the series takes focus on a young boy named Yuuta Togashi. During his junior high years, he had suffered from “chūnibyō” a.k.a. “eighth grader syndrome.” Calling himself the “Dark Flame Master” he had believed that he had supernatural powers and thus alienated himself from his classmates. Now entering into high school, he finds his past incredibly embarrassing and seeks to make a fresh start in a school where he doesn’t know anyone.

His path towards forgetting his past however, is proven easier said than done as he encounters Rikka Takanashi, a delusional girl in class who learns of his past and becomes interested in him. This is the story of their relationship as they learn more about the other and more on Rikka’s past and delusions.
