A two-month break has just been announced for the “Welcome to the Ballroom” manga by the January 2018 issue of Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine. It has been confirmed however that the manga will be resuming in the April issue of the magazine.
While the manga will not appear in the February or March issues, there will be an official fanbook of the manga to be featured in the upcoming issues that will be shipped on February 16. This will be the manga’s first official and featured inside are unseen works such including colored illustrations, character profiles, an introduction to competitive dancing and unreleased cuts from creator Takeuchi.
Also included in the fanbook is special interview with champion dance couple Minato Kojima and Megumi Morita, behind-the-scenes stories from dance competitions, and an interview with the anime’s director Yoshimi Itazu. On the note of the anime, it was revealed by Takeuchi that the television anime’s story will pass the manga before the end of the Metropolitan Tournament. The manga on the other hand, when it debuted its latest chapter in October, had had fewer pages due to Takeuchi’s health.
Written and illustrated by Tomo Takeuchi, the manga was first released in 2011 is serialized by Monthly Shonen Magazine. The series currently has nine volumes, with the 9th volume having been released on June 23. In the course of its run, the manga series has been nominated for Manga Taisho awards, was ranked on Comic Natalie’s and made the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook’s lists of best manga in 2013.
The anime adaptation of the series made its debut on July 8 and is currently running with a slate of 24 episodes. It is produced by Production I.G, directed by Yoshimi Itazu and written by Kenichi Suemitsu.
The story of the series tells of Tatara Fujita, a highschool boy who simply aspires to be good at something – anything, only to be as average as a slouchy teen can be. One day, when a group of bullies accost him, he is saved by Kaname Sengoku. Him being saved is no coincidence however as Tatara soon finds himself dragged into the world of competitive ballroom dancing.
