Only a month has passed and already, a second season has been revealed for fantasy series, “Made in Abyss.” The announcement was made at the “Deep in Abyss Katari” event for the series and has confirmed the appearance of Bondrewd and new cast member Toshiyuki Morikawa to play as him.
His role as the character was confirmed with the presentation of video announcement featuring him voicing lines for the character. Prior to this role, Morikawa has played a variety of roles, one of them was as the antagonist Naraku in the historical shoujo “Inuyasha.” One of his most recent roles was for the shounen work, “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable” as Yoshikage Kira/Kōsaku Kawajiri.
As for the character he will be playing, “Bondrewd”, otherwise known as “Bondrewd the Novel” is mainly known as a White Whistle of ill repute and is in charge of Idofront, the Cave Riders’ forward Operating Base in the fifth layer.
“Made in Abyss” is originally a currently running manga series by Akihito Tsukushi. It was serialized online in Takeshobo’s digital publication Web Comic Gamma since 2012 and currently has 6 volumes released. The anime adaptation of the work came out in July 2017 with Masayui Kojima, known to have directed the “Piano in the First” film, as the director, and Hideyuki Kurata, who worked on “(The) World God Only Knows” series, as the writer. It was produced by studio Kinema Citrus, the series ran for a total of 13 episodes before ending in September 2017.
Starring in the series were Miyu Tomita, who previously played as Gabriel White Tenma in “Gabriel Dropout!” as Riko. Mariya Ise, who played a role in “Yuri!!! On Ice” as Yūko Nishigori as Reg. And lastly, Shiori Izawa, the voice behind Matsuri Mizusawa in “Citrus” as Nanachi.
In this world there exists the Abyss, a gaping chasm stretching down into the depths of the earth, filled with mysterious creatures and relics from a time long past. Those who dare to venture and explored its mysterious depths are brave explorers known as Divers. Out of all of the, the White Whistles are the most revered.
Riko is a diver, but rather than being a professional she is Red Whistle, a novice who is only allowed to explore the upper levels. While on her exploration though, she discovers mysterious robot with the appearance of an ordinary young boy. Naming him Reg, she makes the decision to travel to the depths of the Abyss with him upon discovering a message from her mother containing an image of the robot. The further they travel down however, the more they learn of the harsh truth the lies in the deep ends of the Abyss.
