A 44-year-old man in Osaka was arrested last Friday by the Osaka City police for violation of the Copyright Act. According to police reports, the man was said to be modifying save game data from the video game Monster Hunter 4G and selling them to those who are interested. He used the PC in tweaking the game’s data which includes items, money, and skills.
He took himself in to the police in Osaka’s Abeno ward for consultation after receiving an anonymous email that was criticizing him. He admitted to the charges and confessed that he was selling modified saved games in order to “cover living expenses”.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect began modifying game files from August 2015 to January 2016 and used online auction sites to sell them. He has so far modified six saved files which earned him 2 million yen.
