General Impression: Isekai Yakkyoku

Synopsis

A young pharmacologist and researcher who entered into the world of medicine for the sake of his sister who had passed away from cancer, ends up passing away himself due to overworking. Rather than ending up in the afterlife however, he finds himself reincarnated as 10-year-old boy in Medieval Parallel Europe. What’s more, it seems that he has been marked marked by what the realm called the “Medicine God” and added with his retained knowledge of all that he has learned, the reincarnated researcher soon paves a way to medical innovation.

The Good

Here is work that finally shifts away from the usual work of a regular person ending up in another world and entering into some sort of hero’s quest or have been turned into an unorthodox character that is able to battle monsters. With this series, not only is there a legitimate exploration into the medical theme but also a protagonist whose past as for once not sweeped to the side.

Another thing to note with the main character is that, while he is given immense power upon waking up in the new world, he doesn’t end up as this overpowered character, but rather an intellectual character who brings different innovations to the realm. Add to the fact that the plot manages to do it while exploring the societal and political aspects of the world is a clever way not only melding world building and plot development but also character growth.

Then there are als the ways that the side characters have been developed as well. Most often, the side characters act more like buffers to the heroes from another real but with this main protagonist, he doesn’t just make use of his own knowledge but also makes sure to learn from those around him. In many ways the protagonist is different for the usual along with the side characters and that just ties the story together in the best of ways.

As for the art, it is pretty much the standard of modern anime but it does do well on the details for the realm and the impressions of the characters when it does comedic scenes

The Bad

One thing that can be said against the series is that the plot tends to dish out a lot of information with little breathing room in between. True, it is nice that the reader gets to learn alongside the protagonist, but a few more pages of filter and development would also be nice. On the note of development, while we see the different changes that the protagonist goes through, the side characters seem to get kind of cut off when the plot calls for it.

Then there is the factor has this amazing ability but there isn’t even a side plot to figure out the mystery behind it. Generally, when you read the entire series, there is about a handful of points that can be said against it but not all of it is quite that big. Some arguments can be made but generally a reader could consider the story as a hit or miss for those who used to the action packed isekai stories.

Conclusion

The story is quite solid and the protagonist holds plenty of good points to him. In terms of execution the story is clever in how it works its flow and world building though at certain points it does seem like it branches out to different points than what it started off with. For the most part however, the series is rather enjoyable, informable and a refreshing look into a reincarnation story than usual.
