Synopsis
Kyouji Himuro was just another regular young man spending another normal day when he suddenly hears knocking at his door. Upon answering it, he doesn’t find a visitor but rather finds himself transported to a completely different world. However, luck wasn’t on his side as he bears no fighting skills, no money and no way to access food or shelter. While dumpster diving he discovers a small amount of seeds and takes it upon himself to grow them as a food source. The problem? All the plants of this world grew into monsters.
The Good
Here is one of the rare series that takes on the now popular theme of ending up in a different world. For once the character, rather than being an overpowered hero, is simply a character that has a talent that makes him prominent in the new world. Just the concept of all the plants being monsters raises so many questions yet so many interesting designs as well. The way that the creator managed to create some unique quirks to each of them makes for fun visuals and characters.
The overall worldbuilding of the series is also commendable. There is just enough revealed that it isn’t over exposed but not too little that you’re left with too many questions. While the general design is mostly simple, the creativity over the plants and their aspects makes up for it. Even the plot, while not having a whole lot of exciting conflict, does have interesting concepts to it that leaves room for growth.
The Bad
It is understood that the main idea of the series is that the main character found a way to make a living by growing monster plants, but there doesn’t seem to be solid plot point of focus. Sure enough, it can be argued that the story is branching out into different arcs. At the same time however, it seems as if the plot is going off at different points. More than this, it seems that after the second chapter, there is a new character in each one and we don’t really get to see a proper development for the previously introduced characters.
Simply put, there is an interesting concept with the overall plot, but the execution of it and the presentation of conflict. And while the creativity over the characters are nice, there could have been much more done with their development before a new characters is introduced.
Conclusion
The most enjoyable aspects that reader will find with the series is not just the fact that it actually does something a little different with the Isekai concept but the creativity that it brings with its creatures as well. The main problem with the series however, is that plotwise, the series doesn’t hold as strong of a foundation as it should have. What’s more, with it continuing to introduce new characters in each chapter, room for development with other characters proves a little difficult.
