The hype is definitely real—it was announced on Thursday in the official website of the live-action Fullmetal Alchemist movie that the film will be officially be screened in over 190 countries including Europe and the United States. This is so far the only live-action film in Japan to have the widest international movie premiere!
The film’s world premiere happened yesterday, October 25 at the Tokyo International Festival. Its official premiere in Japan will happen on December 1 in over 400 movie theaters including IMAX and 4DX screenings.
Aside from this big announcement, the website has also released three new character introduction videos. The first one features the main cast namely Edward, Al, and Winry, the second video introduces the Homonculi, and the third one introduces the State Military characters. You can watch the respective videos below:
As a treat for those living in the United States, Anime NYC will officially be screening the film on November 19 in which the film’s director Fumihiko Sori will be the present. If you’re attending this convention, then this is something that you shouldn’t miss.
Sori promises to fans that the movie will be closely accurate to its original source. To quote, “I want to create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible. The cast is entirely Japanese, but the cultural background is Europe. However, it’s a style that doesn’t represent a specific race or country."
Ryosuke Yamada will play the role of Edward Elric, Dean Fujioka as Roy Mustang, and Tsubasa Honda as Winry Rockbell. Other cast and crew members include the following:
Fumiyo Kohinata as General Hakuro
Ryuta Sato as Maes Hughes
Misako Renbutsu as Riza Hawkeye
Natsuna as Maria Ross
Natsuki Harada as Gracia Hughes
Yo Oizumi as Shou Tucker
Jun Kunimura as Doctor Marco
Yasuko Matsuyuki as Lust
Kanata Hongou as Envy
Shinji Uchiyama as Gluttony
Kenjiro Ishimaru as Father Cornello
As a special treat for those who will be watching the movie on its premiere date in Japan, a “special-edition comic” created by the original manga creator Hiromu Arakawa will be given away until supplies last.
