Netflix Confirms Productions of “30 New Anime Series” for 2018

It was revealed on Monday in the news website The Verge that the popular video streaming platform Netflix confirms of 30 “new anime productions” slated for 2018. This is part of the company’s $8 billion USD budget which prioritizes on the production and development of original films and TV series. They are hoping to reach their original content library to 50% by the end of next year.

While Netflix has been known to air the most popular TV shows like Stranger Things, House of Cards, and Sense8 to name a few, it has promised that 2018 will be something for anime fans as well.

Confirmed titles that will be included in Netflix’s library next year are Violet Evergarden, Kakegurui, Baki, Sword Gai: The Animation, B: The Beginning, A.I.C.O-Incarnation, Rilakkuma, Cannon Busters, and Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya.

As 2017 is nearing its end, 2018 is definitely going to be something for anime fans. We’ll look forward to what they’ll come up for us soon!

A large focus of Netflix’s new anime titles will be original and new series, rather than just acquisition of content from Japan. Netflix and other online streaming services have been investing heavily in content creation, rather than acquisition, as a way of bolstering their long-term intellectual property and copyright catalogs.

In addition to anime, Netflix is producing 80 original feature films.
