An Initial Review: The Ancient Magus Bride First Chapter

Synopsis

Chise is a young woman who hasn’t has the easiest of lives, and in this rocky path she finds herself at a slave auction. When she is purchased by the mysterious Magus Elias, she finds a new door open to her and a new life awaiting as an apprentice and future wife.

The Good

There is a lot of detail work to be appreciated in terms of the at, from the characters and their features to the supernatural beings that are floating about. Then there is the concept of the story, it brings a rather large amount of possibilities in terms of world building and seems to have established itself well enough. On the note of well done establishment, the protagonist also has a rather good introduction to her, rather dark yes, but she shows promise of a in depth tale/backstory. Aside from the seriousness of things there are slight moments of comedies stemmed from the interaction of the two main characters and overall the first chapter brings very solid framework of great interest.

The Bad

It is understandable that Chise would have gained a sense of loyalty to Elias due to him taking her in and actually not treating her as some slave. But the buildup of the relationship could have worked out better. Then there also points of expositions that could have been better elaborated but then it would be rather nitpicky seeing as it is only the first chapter. So far there are some rough patches in the art and story but they can easily be smoothen out.

Conclusion

There is a strong establishment of story and characters with a high sense of intrigue to be found with just one chapter. From the art details to the portrayal of characters, there are many points of interest that would drag a reader in to read more even with the rough patches found. If you are interested in a tale of fantasy with mysterious creatures and a rather exciting premise then take a look at the first chapter of this story and you may be hooked.
