It’s been nearly two months since the reveal of the “One Piece: Grand Cruise” VR game in July. Now this week’s Jump magazine reveals the release of the game to be set for 2018 in Japan.
When the game was first revealed, no details was revealed other than hints on how the player might be able to explore the ship and interact with the crew. And also that, the franchise’s creator Eiichiro Oda would be cooperating on the game. With Jump’s revelation of the game’s expected release, so did the confirmation of the initial features of the game, but this time with an added feature of being able to the join in on battles.
In the magazine details revealed that the player would not only be fighting a Kraken but also have a chance to interact with Nami with a conversation mode with choices. The player will also be able to enjoy other types of interactions with the rest of the crew including Zoro, hanging out with Chopper in his room and more.
In addition with the VR game’s revelation, it was also noted that another game for the franchise was in the works and it’s code name is “Dawn.” No details has been revealed as of yet for it however.
“One Piece” was originally a manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda and serialized by Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since July 22, 1997. The series later gained an anime adaptation in 1999 and is currently one of the longest running anime series in the community next to “Dragon Ball” and “Detective Conan.” Currently the franchise has about 86 volumes and over 800 episodes.
In terms of games, the franchise released its first game in 2000; it was a Wonderswan game named “One Piece: Become the Pirate King!” Currently there are around 40 or so games in the franchise.
The main story of the series tells of the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy. A young man who dreams of becoming the Pirate King, a highly sought but seemingly impossible to achieve title. It is said that the only way to achieve this title is to find the One Piece, a challenge set by the former Pirate King Gol D. Roger. Together with his Straw Hat Crew, Luffy sets off on an journey of adventure, friendship and dreams.
