One Piece's New Holographic Stage Event is Postponed

The One Piece crew who were planning on presenting their “holographic” stage event this year gains a change of plans according to this year’s 43rd issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. Now “One Piece Dramatic Stage THE METAL Tsuioku no Marineford” a.k.a. “Recollection of Marineford” is set for 2018.

When the production had been set for this year, a hologram screening of the “Mugiwara no Ichimi vs Kaigun vs Ōka Shichi Bukai Holographic Battle Theater Encore in Yokohama” a.k.a. “Straw Hats vs. Navy vs Seven Warlords of the Sea Holographic Battle Theater Encore in Yokohama” was even held in commemoration of the new production during the months of November and December 2016.

Supposedly the production would be making its premiere at the DMM VR Theater located in Yokohama. A theater recognized for having held the theatrical screening of “The Glass Mask Year 3 Class D”, as well as a benefit concert featuring the cast and staff of the “Prince of Tennis” series and more.

The DMM VR Theater is known as a venue that uses same “Pepper’s Ghost Screen” as the ones that are being used in Vocaloid. It uses “holographic” technology for virtual concerts and other events but in comparison to other theaters or venues that use holographic technology, the DMM VR makes use of uses multiple screens to add depth to its performances.

“One Piece” is one of the longest running franchise known in the anime community, having been released first as a 1997 manga series followed by an anime adaptation in 1999 and still going strong. Currently the manga series is at around 86 volumes while the anime is at 805 episodes.

The story of the series tells of a young man named Monkey D. Luffy. He dreams of becoming the Pirate King, a highly sought title which can only be taken by the first person to find the One Piece, said to be the greatest treasure left behind by the former Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. In his journey to this goal, he gathers a set of crew and together they create a deep bond of friendship and set out for adventure.

With the new “holographic” production, the title sets the story around the Marineford arc of the series, where Luffy sets off to rescue his brother captured by the Marines after getting separated from his crew. However, it was noted that production would be featuring an original story and new characters.
