Another franchise created by Osamu Tezuka is making its way to the “Astro Boy: Edge of Time” expansion and its name is “The Vampires.” Adding an element of Vampires and WItches to the card game, the expansion was announced by Active Gaming Media and Tezuka Productions on September 14.
There is no confirmed release date for the expansion but it has been revealed is that the two companies has added new skills to the game, as well as 100 new cards and a new faction to the game.
It was just in April 12 the free-to-play digital card game with in-app purchases for PC was released by DMM. Followed after this was a PC release via Steam on June 19. Plans are currently being made for an iOS and Android version of the game to be made but no news has been released yet on the official website.
When Active Gaming Media launched the Kickstarter for the game back in August 2016, they were only able up to US$7,255 of its US$50,000 goal before putting an end to the campaign to and end. But not all was lost for the game because with the Japanese Makuake site which held a parallel crowdfunding campaign, success was found.
The game, is based on the the variety of works by Osama Tezuka and features his characters being redesigned into the game’s cards by modern artists including the creator of “Gantz” and “Inuyashiki”, Hiroya Oku.
From the title, “Astro Boy” is one of the main basis of the game. It is a 1952 shounen manga series featuring the tale of an android boy named Astro Boy and his adventurous with his other companions. The series ran until 1968 and followed after, was adapted into different anime series and even a computer-animated film.
“The Vampires” on the other hand, is a 1966 fantasy series that ran until 1967. The story told of Toppei Tachibana, vampire in search of his father. His tale begins with him gaining work at Mushi Production and being discovered by the president Osamu Tezuka, to be not only a vampire but also a werewolf. While he is off on his own journey however, his vampire community begin to plan an uprise against humans and soon chaos begins to threaten the world and it is Toppei and his companions who must band together to stop it.
