Coming to Universal Japan: Sailor Moon and Final Fantasy

Two new attractions are headed for Universal Studios Japan for its 4th year of Cool Japan collaborations. Based on the highly popular frnachises of “Sailor Moon” and “Final Fantasy”, the attractions will be making their debut in the next year.

Also arriving at the amusement park in Osaka with the two franchises are “Case Closed / Detective Conan” and “Monster Hunter” which are returning with expanded content from last year.

Sailor Moon is one of the biggest classic anime series known in the anime community. First launched in 1991 as a manga series originally titled “Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon” written and illustrated by Naoko Takeuchi it ran for a total of 18 volumes. The manga series later gained an anime series 1992 which later resulted in three animated feature films, a television special, and three short films.

When the franchise grew and spread towards to the West, its popularity grew even larger and has in turn become a highly recognized series next to other classics who reached the west like Pokemon. Most recently the franchise has concluded its reboot series named “Sailor Moon Crystal” which was released in July 2014 and ran for a total of 39 episodes.

The tale of the series tells of a high school girl named Usagi, a clumsy but cheerful and kind girl. One day she saves a small black cat from a group of young boys bullying it; however, tha cat was no normal cat but rather talking black cat by the name of Luna.

She has come to search for Usagi for she has been chosen to be Sailor Moon, a soldier destined to save Earth from the forces of evil. Thus begins her journey in battling against evil and searching for the other soldiers in orderto find their princess and the Silver Crystal.

“Final Fantasy” on the other hand is a science fiction and fantasy media franchise created by Hironobu Sakaguchi, and developed and owned by Square Enix. It too is a highly recognized franchise but rather in the gaming community. Over the years it has grown in series and has branched into a variety of other media including CGI films and novels.

Originally released in published in 1987, the game was conceived by Sakaguchi as his last-ditch effort in the game industry; the title was a success and spawned sequels. With a variety of tales in its franchise the main concept of the game focuses on a series of fantasy and science fantasy role-playing video games (RPGs)

It will be in the spring season of 2018 that “Sailor Moon” franchise will be joining the amusement park. As for the other noted franchises including “Final Fantasy,” they will be making their appearance on January 19, 2018.
