Synopsis
The world has been invaded by aliens and it has been said that only one boy can fight against them. Found without memories by a government worker named Arikawa, he spends his days fighting against aliens but beneath this there hides an uncertainty he is trying to solve…
The Good
Here is a work that truthfully has its own unique art style that has little to no comparison. From the comic like exclamations and script slipped into the scenes to the designs of the character and the background. There are many interesting points to note with the artstyle of the series and how it seems to constantly shift but works for it at the same time. From a person who is not completely knowledgeable on the aspects of art, even I can say that the work is a unique piece of work.
The plot though simple was established in an interesting way and the way the characters were portrayed worked out very well. With the main character, he holds an interesting depth to him that tied in with the flow of the story and created a truly fleshed out character and endearing character though short the work may have been. The side characters also hold their own presence and hold an interesting mesh with the main character.
Simply put, the art is both unique and beautiful in many ways, the characters are well fleshed out and don’t end up as buffers to one another. The story though squeezed into a mere 30 minutes created a truly interesting story that will impact the viewer in different ways whether it be from its art, characters, execution or even music.
The Bad
Like with many works, though a work may score in good points there is still some bad points that slip by. With this work, the main flaw lies in the questions that still linger towards in the end and not the good kind. For example, it was established that Kakashi ended up losing his memories and was found by Arikawa, but it was never explained on how exactly this ended up to be with him.
As beautiful as the art may be, it does have its moments when it comes off as two chaotic and the viewer doesn’t know where to look. At different moments the story ends up coming off as rather vague. And while the characters are established well enough and work well off one another, it can also be said that the side characters are not as fully established as they could have been.
To summarize it all, the art while unique and beautiful in many ways, can also come off as rather chaotic as well. Then there is also the moments of the plot where the viewer is left with unanswered questions which in turn makes the story of the work filled with a number of holes.
Conclusion
If you’re looking for a work with beautiful art, a well established protagonist, and well developed side characters all mixed in with a rather interesting though vague art, then this is the work. Even with the questionable moments of the plot and the chaotic moments of its art, the work still leaves an amazing impact on its own and finishes off with a lovely song.
