First it was known as “Gintama: Project Last Game” and in the month of July, the game was revealed to be getting a release in Asia with English subtitles. Now the game holds the new title of “Gintama Ranbu” as revealed the latest of Jump magazine along with new character and in-game features.
The PS4 game based on the long-running series created by Hideaki Sorachi will be featuring a “samurai melee action”, which takes from the “Musou-style” battle mode, simply put, the game will be implement a sword fighting gameplay.
Revealed as the latest playable characters for the game are sword wielding apprentice, Shimura along with umbrella wielding and swift kicker Kagura. New locations are also out and are revealed to be the Kabuki District, the main setting of the manga/anime series and the Shinsegumi Headquarters where the police force working for the bakufu reside.
While there is no confirmed release date for the PS4 and Ps Vita, oit has been confirmed that on the day that the game launches, players will be able to wear protagonist Gintoki’s outfit.
“Gintama” is a fantasy comedy manga series written and illustrated by Hideaki Sorachi and serialized by Shueisha’s Weekly Shounen since December 8, 2003. The series currently has 69 volumes and has been adapted into a variety of OVAs, anime series, films and videogames.
More than “Gintama Ranbu” the franchise also includes the Playstation 2 game “Gintama: Together with Gin! My Kabuki District Journal” launched in August 2007, the DS game “Gintama: Silver Ball Quest: Gin’s Job-Change to Save the World” released in December 2007 and more.
The story of the series tells an alternate Edo period where alien beings known as Amamto have invaded the earth. With the surrender of the Shogun, the samurais who were defending against the beings found their swords take away and the Amamto soon take over.
The hero of the series is an eccentric samurai known as Gintoki Sakata, who along with his friends Shipachi Shimura and Kagura, work as a group of freelancers named “Yorozuya” a.k.a. “We do everything” or literally "The Anything Store.”.
