On July 9, after a struggle with stroke that lasted for 16 months, Wally Burr, a voice director and actor, passes away at age 93. His family and close friends will be holding a memorial gathering for him in fall. His website was recently updated and filled with several tributes and messages dedicated to him.
Burr was notable for being the voice director of some popular animated shows like G.I. Joe, Transformers, Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light, Jem, Dynomutt Dog Wonder, Inspector Gadget, Spider-Man, and Captain Caveman.
He was also known for being the voice of Kremzeek from Transformers and in some particular episodes have voiced Ratchet, Jazz, Thundercracker, and Jazz. He has also dubbed for anime particularly Fist of the North Star, Akira, and Crying Freeman.
Before he went into the animated industry to direct and provide voices, he served the United States Army during the World War II and became a Second Lieutenant at the age of 17 on June 4, 1942. He was also a tank commander during the war which includes the Normandy landings of D-Day.
The animation industry will truly miss him but his legacy will live on. Rest in peace, Mr. Burr.
