A New 2018 Anime! Persona 5 Gets Series Adaptation

The latest entry of the “Persona” game series, “Persona 5” has officially its own anime series set for 2018 with A-1 Pictures taking charge of its production.

It was on Sunday that the official announcement was made via the franchise’s official twitter and along with the announcement, the official website for the game is streaming a teaser video for the series open to only those living in the region of Japan. An image was also released with the announcement holding the tagline, “The world will be stolen by them."

In the teaser video, it was confirmed that the cast members of the game will be reprising their roles for the series and include:

Jun Fukuyama as the protagonist
Mamoru Miyano as Ryuji Sakamoto
Ikue Otani as Morgana
Nana Mizuki as Anne Takamaki
Tomokazu Sugita as Yusuke Kitagawa
Rina Satou as Makoto Niijima
Aoi Yūki as Futaba Sakura
Haruka Tomatsu as Haru Okumura
Sōichiro Hoshi as Goro Akechi

There is no confirmed main staff working on the production as of yet. Prior to this announcement though, “Persona 5” did gain an anime special under A-1 Pictures titled “Persona 5 the Animation -The Day Breakers” which was released on September 3.

The story of this game tells of the story of the player as a transfer student of the fictional Shujin Academy due to being falsely accused of assault and being placed into probation. At one point in the school year however, the protagonist ends up along with other students, waking up their Persona powers and end up becoming masked vigilantes dubbed the “Phantom Thieves of Hearts.”
As vigilantes the students explore the supernatural Metaverse realm to steal ill intent from the hearts of adults while also battling against supernatural monsters.

The game was officially released for both Playstation 3 and 4 in Japan on September 15; and after a delay, the game was made available in North America on April 4.

Other than the anime special for “Persona 5” A-1 Pictures has also worked on previous animation adaptations of the previous entries of the franchise. These include the Persona 4 “The Golden Animation” anime series,  the Persona “-trinity soul-”  anime series and the “Persona 3 the Movie No. 3 Falling Down” and the “Persona 3 Movie No. 4 Winter of Rebirth” films
