What makes the series interesting?
For one thing, the characters, one thing that can be found that is common in many sports anime is that the smaller characters of the series tend to be quite endearing, whether they be earnest about the sport or wanting to become better in order to catch up with the more experienced athletes, there’s a quality about them that makes a viewer want to either befriend them or adopt them. Even the antagonists of the series hold an interesting quality about them and you can’t really resent them as they are simply competitors and as bad as they may come off, there is a point where you find that you can’t really hate them.
The emotional aspect of the series is also very interesting as well and it’s what really draws you in to the rest of the series as you want to see what happens to the characters and what do they react to it. Then there is also the comedy mixed in that shows the goofy side to the characters and that is always a plus.
What would make you want to stop watching?
When it comes to sport anime, the intensity of the competitions and the characters is to be expected, but this series takes it to a completely different level with the shift of the characters attitudes to their strange “power up” moments in the race that looks like weird special moves that you would see in an action series. Then there is also one character that has a weird physicality to them that may come off as cringe worthy and it’s not only him but even other characters have their physical cringe moments with bulging muscles and bones cracking that can be hear. To sum things up, the intensity can be a bit much.
Should a non sports fan watch it?
If you’re looking for something new to watch and are willing to try a different type of sports anime that will let you learn something new and introduce you to not only endearing but goofy characters, then this is a series to check out. It has good characters, good comedy and interesting things to teach about cycling, even if it can get overly intense.
