Synopsis
This the tale of a world wherein three years ago, a mysterious green cloud began to envelop the world. Though majority are unaffected by the event, others have ended up developed supernatural abilities. Now an age of heroes and villains has arisen as others attempt to solve the mystery of this phenomenon. What will be the result?
The Good
The main thing that really stand out about the first episode is the execution of its art. More than having the visual of having a comic book come to life, it is a very smooth combination of how one would think an anime and comic style combined would be like, creating a very unique look and animation style for the series which make it stand out from the rest. The execution of the characters, specifically the one with special abilities brought out the scenes when they fought and with how little dialogue is given other than giving the play-by-play and character interactions, a mystery builds around them, creating anticipation for the following episodes.
Overall, in terms of art, this is a high unique work to check out a style mixing Japanese animation and a Western comic style with character portrayal and well done execution to have the viewer anticipating.
The Bad
The one main thing that could have made this a better episode and make me want to watch more would be the execution of music throughout the episode. True the opening did well enough but followed after this was rather lacklustre background songs and soundtracks depicting the fight when it happens. Then there is plot yet to be figure out, though the concept is quite clear. Overall in terms of music and concept, which is not overly new when thinking about, the good outweighs the bad.
Conclusion
This is a very innovative work when it comes to art style in the superhero genre of anime, but at the same time, the concept is not all that new. The fight scenes are interesting but the music to impact the viewer when this kind of scene happens didn’t make it through. Still the characters are interesting in their own way and the mysteries hinted throughout the episode was a nice touch to have the viewer interest in the next episode.
