In 1987, an anime series titled “Mister Ajikko” was released and spanned for a total of 99 episodes before ending in 1999. Now in celebration of its 30th anniversary, the vintage series will be having commemorative sale of a Blu-ray Box set.
There are two boxes for the series set at 49,800 yen, the first is titled “Ichiro Box” and will be released on November 2 with the 1st to 50th story contained. The second box set will be released on February 2, 2018 with stories 51 to 99 within.
More than the episodes, the Blu-rays will also be having audio commentary from the main cast of the series along with a booklet containing both staff and cast comments.
There will also be a special edition which was translated to “Shogun’s General Seven Knife Man! There are also a number of valuable image benefits such as “All members gather” and a special page released by the official website of the series has revealed that a project for fans to post one of the unforgettable dishes of the series while watching the series.
The story of this series tells of culinary prodigy named Ajiyoshi Youichi who manages a restaurant with his mother. One day a customer by the name of Murata Genjirou entered into their establishment and was surprised by Youchi’s skill upon tasting a katsudon he prepared. From this encounter Yoiuchi finds himself invited to the Ajiou (literally meaning taste emperor) Building.
It is there that he ends up competing against an in-house Italian chef in a spaghetti match and ends up winning due to his novel culinary ideas and enthusiasm in serving the best. Thus begins Youchi’s journey for the best tastes and dishes as he walks a path of competitions filled with rivals.
There was a variety of staff who worked on the series over its years in broadcasting, but the series director always remained the same, and his name Yasuhiro Imagawa. As for the cast, it was voice actor Minami Takayama who played as the protagonist Youchi, she is also recognized for other roles such as Conan Edogawa in the long running mystery series, “Detective Conan.”
