A wave of nostalgia hits fans of the Gundam franchise, as after seven years since its last illustration posted, the August issue of Gakken’s Animedia magazine released on Monday reveals special Mobile Suit Gundam Wing illustrations.
The Gundam franchise in the anime/manga community is a large one, but this particular Gundam series is considered as one of the classics. “Mobile Suit Gundam Wing”, otherwise known simply as “Gundam Wing”, is a mecha anime series that was first launched in 1995.
Considered as the sixth series of the franchise it was directed by Masashi Ikeda and written by Katsuyuki Sumizawa and tells of a story that centers on a war in the future (specifically the 2220s) between Earth and its orbital colonies in the Earth-Moon system.
In addition to the reveal of the illustrations, the official twitter of the magazine posted a preview of Heero and Duo’s image. The full image of the magazine will be featuring illustrations of Quatre, Trowa, Wufei, and Relena with character introductions to add. More than the illustrations to be released, the magazine has announced that the issue will be including an interview with the series composer of the anime series Katsuyuki Sumisawa.
In terms of popularity amongst characters with the fans it was most recently announced that the anime’s protagonist Heero ranked at #7 on the Goo Ranking website’s recent poll of Gundam anime main characters with the best personality.
Considering that is has been more than 20 years since the anime series made its debut, it is understandable that a number of fans are confused and have expressed so in various online comments. The truth of the matter though is that on July 28, Bandai Visual will be releasing a special limited-edition Blu-ray Disc box set (seen below) bundling the Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz and Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Operation Meteor original video anime.
The images released by the magazine was meant as a commemoration to this announcement and thus fans can rest their comments on the issue.
Prior to all this on June 23, two special limited-edition Blu-ray Disc box sets for the Mobile Suit Gundam Wing was shipped.
