Synopsis
In a city called Alteria, there is a little bar restaurant located in an old alley and there are rumors of the food seeming to be able to transfer you into a whole different world. From cold beers to hot pot, this is a tale that tells of the different experiences of different characters upon entering the unique establishment that is “Nobu.”
The Good
Here is a rare genre that only now has been getting more recognition, gourmet fantasy, otherwise known as the genre that mixes the delicious food of the modern world with a fantasy realm involving knights or beasts or both. But in comparison to the other works that take on a more dramatic approach, this series takes on a more laid back approach with a hint of mystery that drives the reader in.
The art, while simple and similar to many modern at styles, holds a simple and unique draw, especially in the presentation of the food and styles of the different characters. The plot is also easy enough to follow and makes for a good read to pass the time and make you smile with its endearing characters.
The Bad
While the plot is interesting and takes focus on the different and interesting stories of the characters who visit the bar, it would be nice if they had done some development on either them or the restaurant workers. What’s more, there are some things that will leave you questioning on how exactly things work in the world that they have set up in. Not to spoil much but the latest chapter does give a hint to the connection of the bar to the fantasy world but it mainly seems like an exploration through the eyes of one of the world’s character.
It is not the most dramatic of tales so if you’re looking for a cross between two worlds packed with drama, mystery and action, this is not the series for you.
Conclusion
It’s a fun little series to read and pass the time while also ending up with a smile. While it doesn’t have the most dynamic of plots, the theme of different people enjoying good food that unfamiliar to them but touches them in different ways, remains the same. This is a series that will not only bring a new appreciation to food but will also have the reader want to learn more about the different characters that make their way to the restaurant.
