Vintage Manga Otoko-Zaka Moves New Arc to Shounen Jump+ in July

A vintage series makes its existence known once more and its name is “Otoko-Zaka”, a supernatural series which was first published in 1984 and created by Masami Kurumada, the man who created different vintage series including the fantasy actions series, “Saint Seiya” and the action series “Fuuma no Kojirou.”

Now as confirmed on Friday on the artist’s official website, the new arc of the series known as the “Keikai Otome-hen” arc will be making its way on July 14 onto the Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ website and app, which has been offering chapters of the manga for free since June 2.

For those who may not know, “Otoko-Zaka” is a supernatural tale that takes place in a small town located in Chiba, known as Kiyukuuri, there resides a young male named Jingi Kikukawa. He is known as the undisputed top dog at the Tooun Middle School, having never lost a fight in 13 years.

This winning streak is cut however when Jingi is defeated by the ringleader in Western Japan, Shou Takeshima, a young man with an agenda for Japan. In order to defeat this ambitious individual, Jingi makes the decision to seek out Kenka-Oni, a demon who lives in Oniyama and take on training under a dangerous art of fighting.

Prior to the change in site, after three decades of hiatus, the series was first revived with eight chapters in 2014 in the Shū Play News, the official website of Shueisha’s Weekly Playboy magazine. The chapters where compiled onto the fourth volume and in July of last year, there was a release of a sixth volume with newer chapters by the magazine.

Shueisha is a Japanese book and video game publisher founded in 1925 and located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. It has a number of magazines including Weekly Shōnen Jump, Non-no, Ultra Jump and Weekly Young Jump. The last being where the manga was published and caters to heterosexual men being an adult magazine.

There is no anime adaptation that was made from the series but it did gain a CD of songs with lyrics written by Kurumada in 2005 titled, “Seisei Ruten: Kurumada-ism” with songs for the series and a song performance by Sayuri Setoguchi.
