A unique animation project is about to make it to the Youtube screen starting on May 31 and it is derived from a Japanese children’s book featuring a detective with a literal butt for a face.
This particular Japanese children’s book is named “Oshiri Tantei” which translates “The Butt Detective” and is under the production of Toei Animation for its net series. There are six books on the adventures of the butt faced detective and over 1.5 million copies were sold since the beginning of May this year.
It was first published in 2012 and for each book, the title began with the words ‘Fart! Fart!’, for example, ‘Fart, Fart! The Riddle of The Disappearing Lunch Box’ and ‘Fart, Fart! The Little Police Chief’s Big Problem.
The popularity for this eyebrow raising series stems from a twitter account under a user named Nick Kapur posting details on the series which ended up being viral.
The series follows the adventures of the detective with a posterior face, while the rest of the characters seem to hold animal characteristics in comparison. It is stated that he often says the phrase “I smell trouble,” before heading to solve the case.
While the appearance of the detective may be off putting for some readers, he has been described as some who “behaves like a perfect English gentleman.” He apprehends the culprit by blowing farts into their faces.
The main purpose for this book series was to bring kids into different kinds of mysteries by presenting the story along with different labyrinths and puzzles for the kids to enjoy.
The cast for the net series comprise of actor Watanabe, Ikkei, who played as role in the 2013 film “Kansai Johnnys Jr. no Kyoto Uzumasa Koshinkyoku: and is now taking on the role of the narrator for the series. Playing as the unorthodox protagonist is Sanpei, Yuuko, the voice of Tabata Hidenori in “Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou.”
Playing as the detective’s canine companion Brown is Satou, Ayaka who plays as Mihama, Chiyo in “Azumanga Web Daioh.”
The first episode of the series is already u and it introduces the viewer to the surreal comedy of the series.
