Anime fans have expressed their excitement over the announcement last year that Hayao Miyazaki will be working on a feature film is which is expected to be finished before the Tokyo Olympics. Well, here are some of good news and bad news especially for all you Studio Ghibli fans out there
Anime Short to Premiere in July
Studio Ghibli’s producer Toshio Suzuki announced on Saturday at the Niconico Chokaigi 2017 convention that Miyazaki will be debuting his next work titled Boro the Caterpillar or “Kemushi no Boro” in July. The anime short will premiere at the Ghibli Studio in Tokyo. So far there are no announcements yet whether the anime short is only exclusive for the museum or people will be able to watch online or on television.
No Ghibli Feature Length Film Anytime Soon
It was announced in November in the NHK TV special Owaranai Hito Miyazaki Hayao (The man Who Is Not Done: Hayao Miyazaki that the well-respected animator will be working on another feature length film slated to premiere before the Tokyo Olympics. There is a bit of sad news however—Toshio Suzuki had denied that the film’s debut premiere date of 2019. The truth still remains that Miyazaki still wants to create an animated feature film after his anime short project.
Miyazaki’s Determination
Although his project proposal was not fully green-lit last August, Miyazaki was determined and wanted to get back into creating anime films again after a long hiatus. He started right away and created over a hundred of cuts of footage for the storyboards. As much as he wanted to complete the project before Japan’s big year for the Olympics, it is just impossible to do since creating a Studio Ghibli film requires a lot of planning and passion to fully finish it that would meet the expectations of its new and long-time fans of the studio.
A Studio Creating the Most Unforgettable Classics
We have grown up with the Studio Ghibli films to the point that the movies have tugged our hearts and brought us to a different world full of color and imagination that no other anime films can imitate. Hayao Miyazaki along with the studio created Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, When Marnie Was There, Grave of the Fireflies, The Tale of Princess Kaguya, and so on.
We may not be able to get a new Ghibli anime film anytime soon but we’re pretty sure that once it’s out in theaters, this will be another masterpiece added to the studio’s continuing legacy.
