There has been collaboration involving trains, and collaborations involving curry; now here comes a collaboration involving both with the series that portrays the art of gambling “Kaiji” making the connection. Fully known as “Tobaku Mokushiroku Kaiji” this was a series released in the 90’s and was created by Nobuyuki Fukumoto an artist recognized for his distinct art style and recurring use of themes of Yakuza and gambling in his works.
“Kaiji” is a series that tells the story of Itou Kaiji, a man who fell down on his luck upon moving to Tokyo. As two year pass in his misery, he is suddenly visited by a man named Endou visits him in regards to a large debt he accumalated from a former coworker and gives him two choices. Either spend the next ten years attemtping to pay his debt or enter into the world of Espoir to pay it in one night. Kaiji chooses the later and soon he is dragged into the a world he cannot escape.
The theme for the upcoming collaboration is “Co-star of the Three Great” Kaiji!" and one of the main features of the event are train head marks and posters drawn by the artist himself. On June 10 and 11 there will be a special booth at the “Yokosuka YY VIOLOGY FESTA 2017” where on the 11th, there will be a “handshake meeting & gifts transfer meeting” with Nobuyuki making his appearance. The participation for this segment is free and will begin at 12:00.
However, the “handshake meeting & gifts transfer meeting” will be broken into two parts and will only accomodate a total of 36 participants for both times. the first part will run from 12: 00-13: 00 and part 2 willl run from 13:15 to 14:15. It is reported that one of the gifts to be given is a A2 sized autographed poster.
In regards to the curry and trains involvement in the event, the booth will be having a curry named after the Maritime Self-Defense Force Yokosuka District General Manager, called the “Yokosuka Ocean Curry” and is priced 500 yen. The meals can be enjoyed on the cars of the 189 express train where purchases will be guided on. Posted in the vehicle are headmarks and posters illustrated by Fukumoto himself.
