Some may know this name and others may not but Fujiko Akatsuka was and is recognized as a pioneer of the manga community and is otherwise known the “Gag Manga King." An iconic figure recognized for his unique art style and comedic works, he has left his mark and is still remembered today as evidenced with an upcoming exhibition displaying his art works.
From April 27th to May 14th at theGallery X by PARCO located in Shibuya, Tokyo an exhibition entitled as the “Fujio Akatsuka’s 80th Anniversary Project” Genius Bakabon "" Arutaro Arotaro “50th Anniversary Spring Bichuz Exhibition” will be taking place with a free admission.
The main name for the event coming this year is the “Spring Bichuzu Exhibition”; featured in this event are tribute works on the series “Osomatsu-kun” and “Himitsu no Akkochan” as well as rare reproduction drawings. Mainly the 50th anniversary that is being celebrated this year will be “Genius Bakabon” and “Arutaro Aitaro” with art duplications of the originals in a story tailoring.
More than the exhibits, visitors can also enjoy the reading corner containing pieces discussing Fujiko’s experience from various viewpoints, centered on his work process.
In addition to this, visitors will also be able to purchase limited items depending on the schedule. The items comprise of 10 types of T-shirts (3,000 yen each), can badges (400 yen each), acrylic key holders (650 yen each) and all five kinds of tote bags (2,500 yen).
Prior to this in 2015, Fujiko’s 80th anniversary party was held and featured hommage works by a total of 20 artists was featured including Takashi Murakami and Tomohisa Gokida who were influenced by Fujio Akatsuka. "Bituchi Exhibition ".
