Utada Hikaru to Release New Work This Year, Switches to New Record Label

Utada Hikaru is back and this time with a big announcement. According to a recent post on her official website on Thursday, this international-acclaimed Japanese singer is transferring to a new music label from Universal Music Japan to Epic Record Japan (owned by Sony Music Japan). The reason for this change of labels is due to her contract with the former label will be ending in March. Utada considers this as a new start for her especially that she is returning to the Japanese music industry.

Aside from this change, she also announces that her new work is set to release this year. Her first album titled Fantôme hit rank 6 on the U.S. iTunes album chart in September 2016. Utada Teruzane, the singer’s father, made an announcement in December that his daughter will once again be singing the theme song for the upcoming game Kingdom Hearts III. In a later tweet, he corrected himself that the decision of doing a collaboration with her related to the theme song of the game is still not final.
