Musical Adaptation for 'Kiki's Delivery Service' Novels Now Green-lit

You have probably known Kiki’s Delivery Service (Majo no Takkyūbin) due to Studio Ghibli. Just in case you didn’t know, this well-loved movie was actually an anime film adaptation of a fantasy novel series of the same name created by Eiko Kadono. Recently, the novel series is green-lit for a stage musical which will have its first run from June 1 to 4 at the New National Theater in Tokyo and the second run will happen at the Umeda Arts Theater in Osaka from August 31 to September. The musical’s director and scriptwriter is Koki Kishimoto and Ryota Kojima is the composer for musical songs.

The cast confirmed for this musical adaptation are the following: Moka Kamishiraishi (HaruChika live-action) will play the role of Kiki, while Aran Abe (who played in Kin Kyori Renai: Season Zero and a member of Johnny’s Jr.) will play as Tombo.

The novel series (which composed of six volumes) follows the coming of age adventures of Kiki and her her black cat named Jiji. Aside from the original novel series that started in 1985, Kadono also published a side story centered on the Osono released in 2014.
