School Comedy Anime that Brings a Good Laugh and an Interesting Plot

When it comes to watching anime for most viewers there is a tendency to lean towards certain genre for different reasons. For most people they choose a genre depending on their interest or their taste should they be a seasoned anime viewer. However, there are times where any type of viewer just wants to watch something to pass the time or have a good time.

In the world of anime there are various forms of comedy works and scenarios in other shows that make a source of enjoyment. But like any other genre the comedy genre (specifically school comedy) of anime brings not only hilarity but unique plots as well that seem to work. The following are prime examples of that aspect.

Fudanshi Koukou Seikatsu

Here’s a different take on a male lead in a school setting. Protagonist high schooler Sakaguchi is what is known as a “fudanshi” a male that has interest in boys-love stories. He spends his days hiding his hobby and the struggles that come with it from buying manga from the “girly” side of the store to explaining his hobby to his best friend Nakamura. A story of a high school fudanshi trying to enjoy his “dark” hobby in secret all the while trying to find fellow fans and friends brings about different scenarios of hijinks and hilarity.

Watashi ga Motete Dōsunda a.k.a Kiss him, Not me

Having the harem as part of its package one would think that the anime itself would think that the comedy of this show would mainly centre on the males fighting for the female’s attention. That is only partly true; for this anime it tells the story of Kae Serinuma, a high school fujoshi (a girl who likes boys-love) and otome who starts off as overweight and obsessed with pairing up her male classmates.

However, when he favourite character dies she locks herself away and ends up turning into a beautiful girl from losing weight and in turn gains the attraction of four of her schoolmates. This all in turns brings out a story of a girl with balancing her fujoshi self all the while trying to swim through the unfamiliar waters of male attention towards her.

Handa-kun

The prequel to another anime known as “Barakamon” this anime tells the story of the most popular boy in his high school to the point of being revered. Though that how it may be in reality the main protagonist of this story, Handa Sei sees a completely different side. Thanks to a certain comment made by his friend Handa has the belief that the whole school hates him and that their acts of admiration/obsession over him are in fact a new tactic of bullying. Now the calligraphy prodigy lives his high school days in paranoia all the while creating misunderstandings with his avid fans.

Sakamoto desu Ga (Haven’t you Heard? I’m Sakamoto)

There is one guy that is admired by all in his school; for he is not just cool, not even cooler, no he’s the coolest and his name is Sakamoto. He lives his day with one thing to define him, to be cool in everything that he does. Whatever it may be, from handling bullies, cleaning or even eating lunch, Sakamoto does it as “cool” as possible. Girls love him and guys want to be him, this is the story of a high school male that takes his cool factor to the max and resulting in rather wacky hijinks and unique scenarios due to his admirers and enemies.

Disastrous Life of Saiki K

One would think that having super powers would be an amazing to have in their daily life especially, if one were born with psychic powers. This statement however would be heavily disagreed with by the main protagonist of this story. Saiki Kuusuo is a high school boy who was born with a vast array of psychic abilities. While outsiders might think he would be blessed there are also a multitude of disadvantages to his abilities as well, especially since he wants nothing more than to be an unnoticed average all around student only to thwarted by the people he meets.
