New 'Wake Up, Girls!' TV Anime Now Green-Lit!

In the recent Wake Up, Girls! Festa 2016 Super Live event on Sunday, it was officially announced that a new Wake Up, Girls! TV anime is now green-lit and slated for a 2017 release. You can check out the official trailer for the anime below:

The first television anime was aired in Japan in January 2014 with a very limited release in theaters. Wake Up, Girls! Sheishun no Kage and <Wake Up, Girls! Beyond the Bottom were screen in theaters on September 25 and December 11 respectively. Its spin-off series titled Wake Up, Girl Zoo! also premiered in 2014.

The video above teases the visual features of the series’ six main characters (especially Mayu Shimada). The anime may have new designs but the seiyuus for each character will remain the same for this project. Aside from this, new characters have confirmed to be part of this new anime. You can check out the “audition announcement” video below:

They will have Shin Itagaki as its new director replacing Yutaka Yamamoto. Miyuki Sugawara will be replacing Sunao Chikakoka as the this production’s Character Designer. The studio for this new Wake Up, Girls! anime has also changed. Millepensee will be replacing Ordet as its main animation studio.

Synopsis:

Green Leaves Entertainment is going out of business and President Tange decided to produce an idol group to prevent the agency from having zero talent. He orders a manager Matsuda to scout raw talent. Though dissatisfied with the idea, Matsuda was able to have a fateful encounter with one girl.
