As part of their 20th anniversary celebration, Toonami will present a 25-minute, five-part film directed by the anime legend Mamoru Oshii. The project is entitled “Sand Whale and Me” and the first part will be premiered on March 18.

The plot of Sand Whale and Me centers on a female paratrooper who is stuck in a desert and trying to survive with the limited food and water supplies she has. She needs to find and catch a Sand Whale so that she can keep on living, and that is her only choice aside from tragic death.
This upcoming March, Toonami’s celebrating it's 20th anniversary. As part of the festivities, Toonami proudly presents “Sand Whale and Me,” a 25 minute, 5 part short film from legendary director Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor) and Production I.G.
Presented in a hybrid live action/CG style, "Sand Whale and Me” is the story of a female paratrooper in the distant future who is stranded in a vast desert. With limited supply of food and water, her only hope is to catch a Sand Whale from a pack. If she can’t, her life may just hang in the balance.

Mamoru Oshii is a renowned Japanese director who is famous for many legendary projects such as Ghost in the Shell (1995), Urusei yatsura (1981) and Ghost in the Shell 2:Innocence (2004). He will be cooperating with composer Kenji Kawai, CGI supervisor Atsuki Sato, costume designer Dango Takeda, voice casts Hanako Saeki (main protagonist), and Yoshikatsu Fujiki (soldier) for the micro-series.
