A new promo video for the upcoming second season of Quintessential Quintuplets (Gotoubun no Hanayome) was released yesterday, with the video spotlighting Ichika, the oldest of the five Nakano sisters. The promo video is the first of five character-focused promo videos for the second season, with each focusing on one Nakano quint. Check out Ichika’s here!

The second season will be released on January 2021. Its original October 2020 release was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new season is officially titled Gotoubun no Hanayome . It will be directed by Kaori (Yuyushiki, How to Keep a Mummy), replacing Satoshi Kuwabara. The series will now also be handled by Bibury Animation Studio (Azur Lane, Grisaia: Phantom Trigger), replacing Tezuka Productions. The series scripts, however, will still be handled by Keiichiro Ochi.

The second season will feature a returning cast: Kana Hanazawa (Ichika Nakano), Ayana Takesatsu (Nino Nakano), Miku Ito (Miku Nakano), Ayane Sakura (Yotsuba Nakano), and Inori Minase (Itsuki Nakano).

Quintessential Quintuplets is a shounen manga series written and illustrated by Negi Haruba. It was serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine starting August 2017, with the manga ending its run on February of this year. An anime adaptation produced by Tezuka Productions aired from January 10 to March 28, 2019, with Crunchyroll and FUNimation holding the license for the series’ North American release.

The story revolves around Futaro Uesugi, a high school student who consistently has high grades but is down on every other aspect of his life: he has no friends, his father is saddled by many debts, and he has no mother. He can only do so much to make ends meet for him and his younger sister Raiha. Because of his intelligence the rich Nakano family hires him as a tutor to five girls—quintuplets who are cute, charming, but stubbornly hate studying. Fast-forward to the future, and Futaro is revealed to have ended up marrying one of the quintuplets. But with all five sisters falling in love with him during his time tutoring them, which sister does he actually end up with?
