The sequel film to the hit 2016 animé series has just released a new key visual! Titled Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress: The Battle of Unato, its new visual has Mumei taking centerstage, along with other familiar faces. Check it out below:
Director Araki Tetsurou has previously confirmed that the movie will focus on the mysterious Kabaneri Mumei, who accompanied main character Ikoma in the animé series. He has also confirmed that The Battle of Unato will take place six months after the events in the TV series.
A short teaser trailer for the movie was also released last year, which features Mumei reminiscing about her first meeting with Ikoma. The last part of the video also shows a brand new illustration of Mumei seemingly in tears as snow falls around her. This was drawn by character designer and chief animation director Ebara Yasuyuki.
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is an original TV animé produced by Wit Studio for Fuji TV’s Noitamina animé block, which aired from April to June 2016. The story is set in the industrial revolution, where a mysterious virus turns humans into Kabane, undead creatures that can only be killed if its iron-protected heart is pierced. Main character Ikoma, an engineer who invents anti-Kabane weapons, gets infected by the virus but manages to resist it. He then becomes a Kabaneri—a half-human, half-Kabane—and together with mysterious fellow KabaneriMumei, he journeys to seek shelter elsewhere.
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress: The Battle of Unato movie is set for a spring 2019 release.
