Good news to those who have been waiting long and hard for the new Kobayashi season, as we now have a release window for the series! The official website of the anime series has just announced this Tuesday that we’ll get to see more of Kobayashi-san and the shenanigans of her dragon friends, as Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid season 2 has been confirmed for a 2021 release! According to the announcement, the new season is officially titled Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S, with the letter “S” standing for “Super Supreme Second life Starts”.
The second season was first announced in the manga’s eighth volume, which was released last February 2019.
The anime series’ website also unveiled a new visual for season 2, featuring Tohru, Kanna, Elma, and Lucoa:
In even better news, Kyoto Animation has also been confirmed to return to the series, taking the reins once more in producing and animating the second season.
Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid (Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon) is a manga series written and illustrated by Coolkyoushinja. It was first serialized in Monthly Action magazine in May 2013 and is still ongoing, with the manga’s ninth tankobon volume released last November 2019. Last October 2020, Monthly Action announced that the manga is already nearing its “climax”.
In 2017, the manga series was adapted into a 13-episode TV anime series produced by Kyoto Animation. The 1st season was directed by Yasuhiro Takemoto, who sadly was one of the 36 talented staff killed in the arson perpetrated against the studio last July 2019. Takemoto was also the director of other popular KyoAni titles such as the 2007 TV anime series, Lucky Star, and 2010’s The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.
The studio is yet to announce the director who will take over Takemoto’s role in season 2.
Anime News Network describes the story of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid as such:
“Miss Kobayashi is your average office worker who lives a boring life, alone in her small apartment–until she saves the life of a female dragon in distress. The dragon, named Tohru, has the ability to magically transform into an adorable human girl (albeit with horns and a long tail), who will do anything to pay off her debt of gratitude, whether Miss Kobayashi likes it or not.”
