Social media is plenty fun, yes, but there are times when the cons of having one far outweigh the pros. This is currently the case for Domestic Girlfriend (Domestic no Kanojo) manga author Kei Sasuga, who has recently expressed that using Twitter has become hard for her because she has been receiving lots of hateful comments. Not only that, but she has also specified that these hate comments are mostly coming from overseas fans. Whew.
Her tweet, translated to English, reads as such:
“Twitter is getting a little hard because there are too many angry criticisms, criticisms, and stickiness from overseas people…”
This is most likely linked to fan reactions towards the last few chapters of her popular manga series Domestic Girlfriend, whose ending appeared to be not that well-received by fans.
(WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!)
In the last few chapters, main character Natsuo gets Rui, the younger sister, pregnant. Natsuo thinks of marrying Rui but she rejects him. Older sister Hina gets into an accident and falls into a coma. Rui then lets Natsuo go; he then chooses to be with Hina despite her being in a comatose. Fast-forward some years and Hina and Natsuo get married. The two of them are now living with Rui and her daughter (with Natsuo!) under the same roof. Natsuo then writes a novel entitled “Domestic Girlfriend” that is based on his experience.
(END SPOILERS)
Needless to say, a lot of fans did not like the ending and have taken to Twitter to express their strong dislike for how everything went down in the story—with some going as far as harassing her and even sending death threats. Sadly after her tweet, the situation appeared to have worsened as a lot of her followers told her to just deactivate her Twitter if she can’t handle the heat.
(Seriously, people, don’t be like this. If you don’t like something, don’t go as far as threatening the creators!)
The series is being serialized in the Weekly Shounen Magazine since April 2014. The manga’s English license is held by Kodansha Comics, which releases the manga digitally. The company describes the series’ story as such:
“High schooler Natsuo is hopelessly in love with his cheerful and popular teacher, Hina. However, one day at a mixer, he meets a moody girl by the name of Rui and ends up sleeping with her. Soon after, his father announces that he’s getting remarried to a woman with two daughters of her own. And who shows up in tow, other than both Hina and Rui?! Natsuo’s outrageous new life starts now!”
