A lot of popular anime series are getting stage play adaptations recently, and Fire Force is no exception! Last December, it was announced that the hit series is getting a stage play, and today we are getting new updates on this project: additional cast have been announced for the adaptation as well as run dates.
The stage play is set to run from July 31 to August 2 at the Umeda Arts Theater in Osaka, and from August 7 to 9 at the KT Zepp Yokohama in Kanagawa.
Lead actor Hikaru Makishima (Kaoru Kaido in The Prince of Tennis musicals), who will be playing protagonist Shinra Kusakabe, has been previously revealed. Makishima has also expressed his excitement for the upcoming play, tweeting, “I have loved reading the manga by the author, Okubo-san, a lot, so I am very happy and looking forward to playing Shinra. How can we express that world? I’m sure it will be a powerful stage. Everyone, look forward to it!”
New cast members are:
Ren Ozawa as Arthur Boyle
Yuuki Kimisawa as Akitaro Oubi
Ryoma Baba as Takehisa Hinawa
The stage play will be directed by Shou Kubota, with scripts by Yusei Naruse and music composition by Masaki Miyoshi.
Fire Force is written and illustrated by Atsushi Okubo. It has been serialized in the Weekly Shonen Magazine since its debut in 2015. David Production adapted the manga into anime and premiered it last July. Anime News Network describes its story as such:
“Terror has paralyzed the clockwork metropolis of Tokyo! Possessed by demons, people have begun to burst into flame, leading to the establishment of a special firefighting team: the Fire Force, ready to roll on a moment’s notice to fight spontaneous combustion anywhere it might break out. The team is about to get a very unique addition: Shinra, a boy who possesses the unique power to run at the speed of a rocket, leaving behind the famous “devil’s footprints” (and destroying his shoes in the process). Can the Fire Force discover the source of this strange phenomenon and put a stop to it? Or will the city burn to ashes first?”
