Good news to all Fire Force fans! The hit dark fantasy anime series just revealed two big announcements for the franchise: first off, a highly-anticipated second season! This news was revealed on the 23rd episode of the series last week. The series’ website also released a key visual for the upcoming 2nd season, which is slated for a summer 2020 premiere.
Second big announcement is a stage play adaptation for the series! This news was announced by way of a key visual & trailer release for the stage play, which introduced lead actor Hikaru Makishima (Kaoru Kaido in The Prince of Tennis musicals) as protagonist Shinra Kusakabe. Makishima has also expressed his excitement for the upcoming play, tweeting, “I have loved reading the manga by the author, Okubo-san, a lot, so I am very happy and looking forward to playing Shinra. How can we express that world? I’m sure it will be a powerful stage. Everyone, look forward to it!”

The stage play is set for an Osaka and Kanagawa showing in July and August 2020.
Fire Force is written and illustrated by Atsushi Okubo. It has been serialized in the Weekly Shonen Magazine since its debut in 2015. David Production adapted the manga into anime and premiered it last July. Anime News Network describes its story as such:
“Terror has paralyzed the clockwork metropolis of Tokyo! Possessed by demons, people have begun to burst into flame, leading to the establishment of a special firefighting team: the Fire Force, ready to roll on a moment’s notice to fight spontaneous combustion anywhere it might break out. The team is about to get a very unique addition: Shinra, a boy who possesses the unique power to run at the speed of a rocket, leaving behind the famous “devil’s footprints” (and destroying his shoes in the process). Can the Fire Force discover the source of this strange phenomenon and put a stop to it? Or will the city burn to ashes first?”
