A General Impression on: "The Time I Was Reincarnated into a Slime"

Synopsis

37-year-old human Satoru Mikami was a simple office worker who had grown despondent from the way his life turned out. However, upon being stabbed by a robber, he finds himself reincarnating into a new world as a slime monster of all things. Now with this new form, Satoru, who soon ends up as Rimuru Tempest sets off in his new life with unique abilities in tow.

First Impression

The first plus that popped up with this series is in how the protagonist enters the fantasy realm as a different creature and ends meeting a beautiful girl. Because really, it’s become an old standard for the fantasy stories involving an isekai and reincarnation theme. Instead, the first two episodes establish a strong introduction for the character and setting by building them up such as presenting Satoru’s transition and adaptation to his new form and skills.

Another aspect to enjoy with the initial episodes of the series is in how he interacts with other characters. There’s just an endearing quality to it and their expressiveness is also a plus. If there was anything to point out with the first three episodes, it would be the Rimuru seems to have a slight shift in personality for the anime, it’s not a big thing, but it is a slight note for those who read the manga. Still, as a fantasy anime, it presents strong points in terms of art and animation.

General Impression

This is a series that truly excels in its genres, especially when the action scenes come out. Actually, it’s really the action scenes that highlights how good the art and animation is in presenting the fantasy elements. An addition to the fantasy element is the way that the series worked Rimuru’s AI system and how he strategizes with it. On a side note, the way that it has a sort of personality gives it a fun aspect. Other than its presentation, the unique concepts of the world such as naming equaling leveling up and the way monsters seem to have certain factions. Simply put, the series works its fantasy elements really well.

The second strong point of the series is in how it handles it’s more low-key or solemn moments, the moments where it’s not action or the light-hearted filler but something in-between. Moments such as when Rimuru made his vow to Tempest to how he showed Shizu how Japan turned into a beautiful and thriving city. Those moments where it touched on more serious and emotional aspects are the ones that really stick the series’s impact.

It also helps that the characters are rather enjoyable with how they bounce off one another and how they all have their own moments. On a smaller note, the foreshadowing is rather good for some episodes. If there was anything to say against the series, it would be that it tends to touch on the whole fanservice aspect in awkward bouts. A prime example was when Rimuru tried to show his memories, and it was meant to be a soft moment yet it had to slip in the whole thing with his computer having a busty girl. Really, take out the whole slight fanservice aspect and there may be less awkwardness.

Conclusion

This is a strong fantasy series that was dished out for the fall season. There were interesting concepts good world-building and some great art and animation with its fight and fantasy scenes. The series handles its emotional and serious moments really well but the light-hearted moments are still enjoyable if you take away the awkward fanservice point. Overall, whether you are a fan of a good fantasy action series or an isekai work, this is definitely something to put on the top of your watch list.
