Synopsis
In the St. Claire Elementary, there are many strange legends to be found and three girls named Mako, Miko and Mutsuko have come to visit it. During their visit, they have an abrupt encounter a human body anatomy model named Kunstrijk and Goth the skeleton model. Following the trio vandalizing Kunstrijk, they discover that the models are in fact alive and have been haunting the soon-to-be-demolished science room. In revenge for having been vandalized by the girls, the human anatomy model invites them to the school’s midnight party in order to scare them. Rather than scaring the girls away, however, they instead end up in a quest to collect three mythical medals that can grant a wish and hopefully save the science room.
The Good
It’s a fun little adventure involving the concept of school legends mixed in with some fantasy elements. There’s a creativity to enjoy with how it presents the story and characters while presenting a distinct style in design and animation. So in terms of story, it gives something different with its setting, presentation of different characters, and their development. In addition, the way that it gave some surprise elements to mix up the story a bit.
Going on the characters, Kunstrijk and Goth presented an interesting dynamic with each other and the girls. It was expected that they would have more development but it was still interesting to see how they played off with different characters. As for the other characters, there was a silliness to them, but it’s the type of silliness you can enjoy.
The Bad
Towards the second half of the film, it seemed as if it was trying to pack in more things than it should have with the whole alien thing towards the end. As a whole, it was rather easy to see where the film was going and given it is a kid’s film, there isn’t much to be expected from it. Still, it would have been nice to see more development of the girls given how the felt rather one dimensional for a lot of the film.
Conclusion
This is a fun little supernatural film that is clearly meant for a younger audience but still dishes out some interesting points. There isn’t much to be expected but it does well in terms of presentation. The characters are fine for the film but they didn’t really have anything to make them stand out outside of their development and being silly characters. It’s an okay film with some fun points but not something to watch over and over.
